چکیده

This tutorial surveys the state-of-the-art techniques for interactive non-photorealistic rendering with an emphasis on applications to volume visualization. This first section begins by giving a general motivation behind the need for interactivity in NPR and discusses some of the general approaches toward achieving high-speed rendering. The second section surveys methods that have been developed for interactive non-photorealistic rendering of polygonal surfaces, the area where the vast majority of the research in the field has been devoted. The third section describes an approach for how nonphotorealistic rendering can be applied to interactive volume visualization, while the fourth section concludes this tutorial.

State of the Art Non-Photorealistic Rendering (NPR) Techniques

The emergence of non-photorealistic rendering (NPR) over the greater part of a decade has created an intriguing new field espousing expression, abstraction and stylisation in preference to the traditional computer graphics concerns for photorealism. By lifting the burden of realism, NPR is capable of engaging with users, providing compelling and unique experiences through devices such as abstra...

Non-Photorealistic Rendering System

We present a GPU supported interactive nonphotorealistic rendering system, INSPIRE, which performs feature extraction in both image space, on intermediately rendered images, and object space, on models of various representations, e.g., point, polygon, or hybrid models, without needing connectivity information. INSPIRE obtains interactive NPR rendering with most styles of existing NPR systems, b...

INSPIRE: An Interactive Image Assisted Non-Photorealistic Rendering System

Two prominent issues in non-photorealistic rendering (NPR) are extracting feature points for placing strokes and maintaining frameto-frame coherence and density of these feature points. Most of the existing NPR systems address these two issues by directly operating on objects, which can not only be expensive, but also dependent on representation. We present an interactive non-photorealistic ren...

NPR Lenses: Interactive Tools for Non-Photorealistic Line Drawings

NPR Lenses is an interactive technique for producing expressive non-photorealistic renderings. It provides an intuitive visual interaction tool for illustrators, allowing them to seamlessly apply a large variety of emphasis techniques. Advantages of 3D scene manipulation are combined with the capabilities of viewer-aligned lenses by inserting 2D lens controls into the 3D rendering pipeline. By ...

Resolution Independent NPR-Style 3D Line Textures

This work introduces a technique for interactive walk-throughs of non-photorealistically rendered (NPR) scenes using three-dimensional (3D) line primitives to define architectural features of the model, as well as indicate textural qualities. Line primitives are not typically used in this manner in favour of texture mapping techniques which can encapsulate a great deal of information in a singl...
